Panasonic Introduces SD Size microP2 Card

Panasonic has resized its P2 card to a microP2 card, the world’s first UHS-II compliant professional memory Card.  The microP2 does all the high speed transfer pro video shooters have come to expect from their P2 hardware, but in a package that’s the size of an SD card.

Though smaller, the new microP2 card offers the same level of data capacity (32 GB/64 GB) as well as high transfer speed, superb reliability and excellent security.  

Smaller size does not mean its less durable.  The microP2 card can hold its own with the use of Panasonic’s Proof5 technology.  The microP2 card is static electricity proof, shock proof (over 200% stronger then SD spec), magnet proof, X-Ray proof and temperature proof (-250C to +850C)

To make sure that it will be compatible with a wide range of other devices, Panasonic also has a companion adaptor which will enable the new microP2 card to be work with existing PCMCIA-based hardware.  The adaptor can be used in devices equipped with the current P2 card slot.  A Memory Card Drive is also available. This provides a smooth transition to a microP2 card-based workflow with superior operability.

The new Evolution Series is comprised of the G-Dock EV, a Thunderbolt dual-bay docking station, and two interchangeable and expandable storage modules, the G-Drive Ev and G-Drive Ev Plus.  Used together, they provide quick content transfers for photography, 2K and 4K digital cinema workloads with easy storage expansion in a user configurable solution. The G-DOCK ev with Thunderbolt is the only two-bay solution with interchangeable and rugged storage modules that have the flexibility to be taken into the field.

The G-Drive ev and ev Plus can be used as true standalone drives externally and can also be inserted into the G-Dock ev. As 1TB drives with USB 3.0, users can backup their camera’s media cards, make distributable copies of a TV show for editing, and deliver work securely.   Housed in a 0.65-inch thin, all-aluminum casing, the G-Drive ev can dissipate heat efficiently as well as help your data survive a 1-meter drop.

The G-Dock Ev, which comes with two 1TB G-Drive Ev modules, will be available  the end of May.  Individual G-Drive Ev modules  in 500GB or 1TB capacities can be used as portable drives and will also be available at the end of this month. The 1TB G-Drive Ev Plus will be available this summer.

Last Call for Fuji Motion Picture Film

It’s hard to believe, but the end date for availability of 16mm and 35mm Fuji motion picture film is just a few days away.  A representative from Fujifilm USA has informed us that motion picture film will no longer be available after March 29th.

After this Friday, the plan is for Fujifilm USA to cease the sale of motion picture film (even though they have thousands of feet still in stock).  They will crate up the remaining boxes of 8522 and 8647, 1,000’ rolls and 400’ rolls, Vivid and Eterna Vivid stocks, in their Cypress, California warehouse and ship it all back to Japan.  The film will then be scrapped.

The film stock that began an era of high speed motion picture film with its 250 tungsten stock on Clint Eastwoods “Firefox” and most recently was used on “The Hurt Locker”, “Slumdog Millionaire”, and “Hunger Games”, will no longer be counted on to create beautiful imagery.  Instead, it will be salvaged for the miniscule amount of silver and chemicals from which it is formed. 

So, if you ever wanted to use Fuji film stock, or any film stock for that matter, now is the time to act.  Prices are very low. Stock up now for that future shoot.  Call us now before it vanishes forever.

Our warehouse is bigger.  Our inventory on G-Drives, G-Raids, Lacie and OWC drives has more than doubled.  So has our on-hand stock of SxS cards, flash media, HDCam SR and HDCam tape.

Double Sony Media Reward Dollars on XDCAM Pro Discs

Now through March 31, 2013, members of the Sony Media Reward program will receive double Reward dollars on all XDCAM Pro Disc purchases. 

Sony’s Media Reward program allows purchasers of eligible Sony products to earn dollars toward a wide variety of rewards.  These include Sony consumer and professional electronics, gift cards, and more.

Time is running out on the program which is scheduled to run until March 31st, 2013.   But, if you haven’t joined, it’s still not too late.  Once you spend $1,000 in eligible products, you will earn 2.5% on every dollar you spend.  On XDCAM Pro Discs, the amount you earn will be double.
